Enicar Sherpa 600 Super Dive 144-35-02 Military Issue
Enicar Sherpa 600 Super Dive 144-35-02 Military Issue
In 1956 a team of Swiss Mountaineers and Sherpas ascended Mount Everest, on their wrist the Enicar Seapearl. Capitalising on the media attention surrounding this ascent, Enicar added the Sherpa moniker to their watches and one of the most famous tool watches of the mid-century was born. The Sherpa series have since become the most desirable pieces in Enicars history, and were available in a multitude of variations in colours, functions and styles - some 100 variations, in fact.
The particular version we have here is known as the Super Dive, and combines the well-known super compressor divers case, with an inner rotating dive bezel and date making for what would have been, and still is, a hell of an all rounder. To make this particular piece that bit more special, we believe it to be a Polish Navy issued piece identified by the lack of Sea Pearl medallion in the centre of the case back, and instead an inscription beginning with 'MW' which is usually associated with the Polish Navy, with the MW taken from "Marynarka Wojenna Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej" and followed by the ID number of the soldier. This ID number is also engraved into the side of the case.
Dating from the 60's, it presents in good vintage condition. The flat black dial is original, with the centre portion being in fantastic condition. All printing is clear, tritium is in place, and there are no real marks of note. The dive ring shows some scratching and a large scuff between 5 and 10, with some Tritium burn around the pip at 0. Hands are original, and are in very good condition. Tritium on the dial and hands glows under UV light.
The 40mm steel case is very well preserved, and shows strong lines and even lugs. Shows marks commensurate with age. The case back shows stamping is hard to read, but is present. Acrylic domed crystal is in excellent condition. Dual signed crowns.
Comes mounted to an aftermarket Tropic-style strap.
Serviced around 5 years ago. Winds well, and all functions operating. Water resistance has not been tested. Keeping COSC time. Slight dial movement when pulling the crown in and out.
Spectacular example of a very special Enicar.
