Gérald Genta Retro Sport Jumping Hour 41mm G3694

Gerland Genta needs no introduction, being perhaps the most famous watch designer in history, and while he is well known for the Royal Oak, Nautilus and Ingenieur amongst others, some of his coolest work happened under his own brand. You may be familiar with some of the whimsical Disney jump hour retrograde watches, but if they're a little much for you, then the Retro Jump Hour collection offers up the same complication (clearly one of Genta's favourites, as it is hours), 90's/2000's design aesthetic, and amazing wearability of those pieces but in a more useable, daily-friendly watch. You still get the same sense of whimsy, but without Goofy on your wrist.

The case is made in steel, and measures in at 41mm, with beautifully detailed ridges surrounding it entirely. The same design is also replicated on the crown, which is sandwiched between sculpted crown guards. This being the Retro Sport, it features a rubberised coating on the bezel a-la the Offshore Rubberclad. Within this case lies a black dial with woven carbon centre, with a matte black ring surrounding this with the brand name in relief which surround a polished hour window at 12. The lower half of this section is home to the lumed Arabic numerals in Genta's own distinct font, and is matched to a blued minute hand which is also lumed. The red tip on the blued seconds hand adds a pop of colour, while also aiding legibility.

Powering it is a ETA 2892-A2 base with a module on top for maximum reliability and serviceability. It's finished with a rubber strap with Gerald Genta in relief, and matched to a steel Genta buckle.

This particular example would date from the early 2000's and presents in excellent neo-vintage condition. The bezel shows some minor marks and small nicks as to be expected of rubber, but nothing large. The steel sections show minor scratches, with some marks near the lug holes and some minor nicks/scrapes on the sides of the lugs. Case back shows some scratches. The strap is in good condition, with small nicks and rubs marks present but no cracks. Buckle shows some desk dive marks.

Service history is unknown. Jump hour functions as it should. Winds smoothly and keeping COSC time when measured dial-up on a timegrapher.

Comes as watch-only, no box or papers. Will come with Watch vault Travel Pod and Watch Vault cleaning cloth.

A very cool watch with 90's throwback styling, an interesting and very-Genta complication, with fantastic wearability.
