Panerai Luminor Submersible Tritium Titanium/Steel PAM00170 PAM170
Panerai Luminor Submersible Tritium Titanium/Steel PAM00170 PAM170
For those in the know with Panerai, it's a case of earlier the better as far as collectors are concerned, and this is especially true for the Submersible line for one key reason; tritium. But unlike other Luminor's where you really need to be in the late 90's to still find tritium dials, the Submersible carried this one for a few years into the start of the millennium due to a technical loophole, and this is one of those references.
Known as the PAM170, this is a rarely seen reference that was produced in a series of just 300 pieces across 2003 and 2004. It features a titanium case with polished steel bezel with tritium pip, and is matched to the most amazing titanium and steel bracelet.
Within this 44mm Sub case lies a vertically brushed anthracite dial, which is almost blue on some angles, and black on others. The effect is magnificent when paired with the deep eggshell tritium markers and that sunken running seconds sub-dial at 9, and the oversized Arabic 12 and 6 markers. Powering it is the ETA 7750 based OPIII automatic movement.
This particular example was first sold in 2008, though would have been produced in 03/04, and presents in excellent neo-vintage condition. The watch has been worn regularly, and shows wear commensurate with that use. The bezels shows scuffs and scratches throughout, and the case shows minor scratching. No large dings/nicks etc. The hands are lighter in shade than the dial, which is correct for this reference, and matches the pip in the bezel. All glow under UV, and remains glowing for a few minutes.
The dial itself is in wonderful condition. Shows the most minor of wear around the sub-dial edges which is typical of these dials.
The bracelet contains enough links to fit a 7.6in wrist, with one spare. Shows scratches and scuffs throughout, but remains very tight. Please see images for full condition details.
Mechanically running well. Service history is unknown. Currently keeping time at around -7 seconds a day at 275 degrees of amplitude at full wind dial-up on a timegrapher.
Includes outer box, inner box, warranty card (expired), Panerai booklets, reprinted COSC certificate and spare link for the bracelet. The numbers on the outer box sticker have been changed. We assume it was produced in 2003/04, was then sold by the AD in 2008 and there was a box mixup. They look to have then had the COSC certificate re-issued at the same time.
Great example of one of Panerai's most interesting and rarest pieces form the early-00's.
