Rolex Day Date 1803 White Gold
This is it, the top of the tree for the Rolex range and the very best series in our opinion. For those unfamiliar with Day Date’s, the 1803 is the first in the series and is differentiated from later models for its pie-pan dial and non-quickset day and date adjustment. This pie-pan dial configuration lends a depth not seen in later models, and the open 6’s and 9’s adds vintage charm. For us, the 36mm is the original and best Day Date configuration, and the 1803 is the pick of the litter.
This rare white gold example dates to circa-1966 and presents in excellent vintage condition. The dial is in excellent condition, with some marks around the centre pinion present as well as some minor drag marks on the 'T' in 'Date', and a small scratch under the applied Rolex crown. Edge of the dial near 1-2 show some staining. The tritium plots are all present and full. Correct date wheel with open 6's and 9's. Hands are tritium and match the plots.
The case is in excellent condition for its age. Lugs are strong, and the numbers are crisp and clear. Shows scratches and marks commensurate with its age, but nothing large. Hallmark is clearly visible.
It is mounted to a lovely HANDDN Alran Chevre Fat Nat strap with HANDDN steel buckle.
Unknown service history. Winds smoothly, date and day changes sharply at 12. Keeping time at around +16 secs a day at 270+ degrees of amplitude dial-up on a timegrapher.
Comes with Watch Vault cleaning cloth and Travel Case. No box or papers.
Having a full bracelet is nice, but if you're after a classically sized dress watch a vintage Day Date on strap is astonishing value and simply one of the coolest dress watches you could strap to your wrist.
