Seiko Grand Seiko 6246-9000 62GS Lion Medallion - 1966

One of the most beautiful Grand Seiko pieces, and highly sought after for good reason, the 62 series have the honour of being the very first Grand Seiko with an automatic movement.

This particular version is the 6246-9000, produced in the Suwa factory in 1966 and features a day as well as a date complication. Amazingly, the date features a quick-set function, something completely uncommon and quite remarkable for the mid-60’s.

Featuring a 36mm case, stunning silver dial, and housing the 6246A movement, the 62GS is the perfect example of Taro Tanaka's "Grammar of Design", a language that is till featured in Grand Seiko's to this day, and a very important piece in the back catalogue of Seiko.

This particular piece hails from circa-1966, and presents in excellent vintage condition. Case is thick and sharp, and shows minor pin dents and scratches from it's 59 years on this planet, but quite amazing for its age. The medallion is still in place on the rear of the case, and is undamaged.

Dial is in fantastic condition, with minor spotting present and some dust flecks. Hands and markers show some oxidisation and minor scratches. Roulette day wheel in place. See images for full condition details.

Currently mounted to a short Seiko 'gator strap with vintage GS buckle.

The service history of this piece is unknown. Date and day change as they should. Running superbly, and keeping COSC time when timed face-up on the timegrapher.
