Omega Speedmaster MKIV Automatic 176.009
Omega Speedmaster MKIV Automatic 176.009
These MKIV Speedies are an oft-overlooked reference in the Speedy lineage, but in our opinion it's one of the coolest cushion case references they ever made. Featuring an oh-so-late-60’s case with an amazing sunray pattern and sharply polished bevels, they were to be the successor to the original Speedmaster line, much like the 928 was designed to supersede the 911, but as with the latter the original survived and the new kid on the block was destined to remain an intriguing oddity, but one that just looks better and better with age. Just look at that case finish! Omega has never topped that in our opinion.
Powering it is Omega’s first automatic chronograph movement, which is based on the legendary Lemania 1340, and it gives you running seconds and 24hr indicator at 9, chronograph minutes via a central chronograph hand, 12 hour counter, and date window at 3, all surrounded by an internal tachymetre.
This particular example is in excellent vintage condition. The case features extremely sharp polished bevels, and gorgeous brushed surfaces with only minor scuffs, scratches and some small dings/nicks. See images for full condition details.
The tritium dial is in lovely condition, with no marks that we can see. Hands are tritium, and also in fantastic condition.
It's mounted to a 1162/172 bracelet which is in excellent condition. Shows some average stretch as to be expected for its age, but fantastic overall. Contains enough links to fit roughly an 8.1in wrist.
Was recently serviced by an independent, and is keeping COSC time measured dial-up on a timegrapher. Chronograph operates as it should.
Comes with Watch Vault cleaning cloth, and Watch Vault Travel Pod. No box or papers.
A fantastic example of a beautiful tritium dial MKIV.
