A. Lange & Sohne Grand Lange 1 Rose Gold Grey Dial 137.033

The Grande Lange 1 series was introduced in 2003, and was designed for those who loved the classic Lange 1 design but perhaps found the original size of 38.5mm a little too diminutive for their wrists. The first generation pieces were 41.9mm in diameter, and utilised the same movement as the 38.5mm Lange 1, resulting in overlapping subdials which was certainly distinctive, but perhaps less harmonious than the 38.5mm originals. 

In 2012 the line was updated, and gained a new calibre made specifically for the larger case size, which was now 40.9mm, and with this larger calibre much of the perfect balance of the 38.5's dial was retained, just in a size that suited those who were larger of wrist. Then, in 2022 the 3rd generation of the Grande Lange 1 was introduced, slimming down the case from 8.8mm to 8.2mm, and introducing some absolutely breathtaking granular dial textures.

This is a third generation piece, and thus the rose gold case that measures in at 40.9mm, with a lug-to-lug of 49mm and a thickness of just 8.2mm. As welcome as this slimming down of the case is, it's the dial that really makes this special. The main section of the dial is executed in a matte grained texture, which feels very different to regular Lange 1 dials as instead of reflecting light, it absorbs it. The time-telling sub-dials are slightly recessed, and are executed in the same tone, though with circular snailing giving a completely different effect, and gives off a slightly wavy effect when viewed in the light. The white printing, sans the two red accents for the power reserve, feel so crisp against the grey, and it works perfectly against the rose gold of the case.

Powering it is the same Lange Caliber L095.1 hand-winding mechanical movement as the previous generation, with twin barrels and a 72 hour power reserve. As you'll note it is perfectly sized to the case as should be the Lange way.
The L905.1 is as gorgeous and well finished as ever, with Glashutte stripes that are visually very deep, with the retention of the islands in the calibre as opposed to the later 38.5mm L121.1 movements which lost these. 

It's finished off with a padded 'gator strap with the fantastic Lange tang buckle in rose gold.

This particular example was sold in 2023 in Japan, and presents in TZ 'Near Mint' condition. The case is in superb condition, with minor swirlies and hairlines on the bezel, and couple of small surface marks on the brushed sides of the case. Please see images for full details.

The strap is in superb condition, and the buckle shows minor desk diving marks.

No service history, but a little young for that. Currently keeping time at around +13 seconds a day at 315 degrees of amplitude dial-up on the timegrapher.
