Bulgari Octo Finissimo S Sejima Edition 103710

For us here at Watch Vault, the Octo Finissimo series is one of the most refreshing releases of the past decade and one that will no doubt be a future icon in the world of horology.

There have been many amazing releases in the series, but this Sejima edition must be up there for the greatest Octo's ever made, and in our opinion one of the coolest watches released in the past decade. For those not aware of Kazuyo Sejima, she is a Pritzker-winning Japanese architect known for her designs that are admired for their refined simplicity, spatial fluidity, and thoughtful integration into their surroundings. It's this last part that is the inspiration for the Octo Sejima Edition.

The Octo Sejima took inspiration from Sejima's Laview train, which appears to disappear into its surroundings with the use of highly reflective surfaces. The Sejima Edition uses the Octo 'S' as it's base, so the stainless steel version, and then applies an ultra-high polish to all of its surfaces. What this does visually is allows the case to pick up and reflect its surroundings, so rather than it appearing all of high polish, it actually changes colour and becomes a bit of a chameleon. In a car with a dark headlining and dark upholstery, the watch can appear as all black, and outside on a Spring or Summer's day it'll pick up the surrounding colours of a garden on each of it's sides. It's amazing in person.

The dial is a key component in this, and is also a mirror finish and allows it to become a seamless part of the high-polish watch. But the really interesting part is actually the sapphire crystal, which has a metallised pattern that casts a shadowed grid onto the mirrored dial plate beneath, and creates a depth that is frankly mind-blowing in a watch as thin as this. All markers have been removed, as has the Bulgari branding, a big step for any company to take and they should be applauded for doing to in order to not interrupt the design. When you have someone such as Fabrizio Bonamassa Stigliani as your head of design, I'm not surprised they made the right choice here.

The rest of the watch specs read as per the regular Octo S. The case remains an astonishingly thin 6.4mm while measuring 40mm across, and it’s powered by the BVL 138 calibre with platinum micro-rotor still measures in at a scant 2.23mm thick and 60 hours of power reserve when fully wound.

Along with this ridiculously thin case, the integrated steel bracelet is a wonder in itself. Again, super thin, perfectly formed links taper to a double-fold clasp with its own little party trick. The folding mechanism is partially recessed into the clasp and links, helping it to be ultra-comfortable, and ultra-thin.

This particular piece was purchased locally in November 2022 and presents in TZ Excellent condition. As to be expected of such high polish surfaces, minor hairlines and swirls are unavoidable. There's a few minor surface scuffs on the bracelet, and some hairlines, but nothing more than surface marks. The watch head itself is very clean with only the lightest of hairlines. Crystal shows a very small mark near where the 3 marker would be. Please see images for full condition details.
