Grand Seiko Heritage Quartz 44GS 55th Anniversary SBGP017
Released in 2022 as a part of a limited celebratory collection to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the 1967 release of the original 44GS case, the SBGP017 is a stunning piece with one of the coolest dials we've seen yet on a GS.
Taking inspiration from the clouds above Shinshu, the texture is almost like that of a snowflake, though less uniform with more of a rounded profile, and slight shadowing across the ridges of the raised portions. It's breathtaking in person. Atop this dial sits a blued GS logo to match the blued seconds hand, and typically sharp and supremely finished Dauphine hands and applied markers in steel.
The case itself is a very compact 40mm x 46.2mm x 10.7mm in steel, with classic 44GS design cues such as the broad polished facets across the lugs, and the thin brushed mid-case. Powering it is the 9F85 quartz movement with an accuracy within +/-5 seconds per year, for a perfect set-and-forget watch. Finishing it off is the lovely GS bracelet, and when combined with it's 100m of water resistance it's the perfect daily companion.
This particular example was sold new by the GS boutique in Sydney in July 2022 and remains in brand new condition. It was sized at point of purchase, but remains unworn, and is totally unmarked. Please excuse any fingerprints as we've chosen not to wipe it too much to ensure no swirls. Please see images for full condition details.
