IWC Pilot’s Watch Mark XII

The Mark XI is considered by many to be one of the greatest military watches ever produced. Produced from 1948 all the way through until 1981, it was used by RAF initially, then the FAA and in 1950 began being used by our very own RAAF here in Australia, and set the stanard for what a Pilots watch should be.

The Pilot's watch form IWC lay dormant all the way until 1993 when the Mark XII was released, which is the watch we have here today. Designed as a more civilian-friendly Pilot's watch, it introduced automatic winding with its IWC caliber 884/2, which was based on the JLC caliber 889/2, and the addition of a date wheel, while still retaining the classic proportions and aesthetic of the Mark XI.

The case is 36mm and made in steel with a fully brushed finish. It houses a black dial with creamy tritium markers at 3,6,9 and 12. A discreet date window lies at 3. This example is also mounted to the fantastic mesh IWC bracelet which is extremely comfortable, looks great, and helps bulk up the size a little for those thinking it's on the edge of what they'd comfortably wear.

This particular piece was first sold in 2017 and presents in very good vintage condition. Has been worn, and the case and bezel show scratches and dings throughout consistent with its age. The dial is in lovely condition, with no discernible signs of wear. The hands have been changed to Luminova items at some point, and show some oxidisation. See images for full condition details.

Service history is unknown. Currently keeping time at about -8 secs per day at very high 200's amplitude. All functions operating as they should.
