Nicholas Hacko NH3

The Hacko's are a well-known watchmaking family in Australia, and their journey from selling, servicing and restoring watches to becoming Australia's first 'Indy' watchmaker owes a debt of gratitude to the Swiss. With servicing and restoration forming a  large part of their business, the decision from large Swiss brands to halt supply of parts to third parties in the early 2010's. Rather than giving up, they chose to start designing, assembling and ultimately selling their own line of watches under the Rebelde brand, meaning Rebel in Spanish, to represent their rebellious spirit in the face of adversity.

In 2016 they upped the ante and created the NH brand, heavily investing in their own equipment to begin manufacturing components in Australia, creating one of the most advanced watch workshops in the country which now supplies ultra-high precision manufacturing for the medical, space, quantum computing, optics, semiconductor, and scientific instrumentation sectors. Clearly this is a very high-level operation.

The piece we have here is known as the NH3, and follows on from the NH1 and NH2. Each successive generation of watch features more components manufactured in-house in Sydney, with the NH3 now featuring an in-house dial and hands.

The case itself is made of titanium, and measures in at 45mm with a 55mm lug-to-lug, so fairly similar to a Big Pilot, though much lighter. Within this case lies a titanium dial manufactured in Australia, with a CNC-cut guilloche pattern in the centre. Outboard of this sit applied markers, with Arabic 12-3-9 in a beautiful royal blue, with sub-seconds at 6, both topped with titanium blued hands manufactured in Australia. The manual wind movement features a brass/gold-plating, a Timascus crown wheel 'hat', with hand-polished screws and components featured in the winding section all visible through the sapphire caseback. All of this is water resistant to 100m.

This one-owner watch was originally purchased from Nicholas Hacko in 2022 and presents in TZ 'Near Mint' condition, with only the mildest of surface marks present. There's also a small fleck of dust under the crystal near 2. See images for full condition details.

Currently mounted to a Panerai leather strap with beautiful blue accents to match the dial, and fitted with the Rebelde buckle in steel. It also includes the original NH strap, and two unbranded 'gator-look leather straps.

Currently keeping time at around -6 seconds a day at 300+ degrees of amplitude.
