ochs und junior Annual Calendar LIGHT
ochs und junior Annual Calendar LIGHT - 2019
For those familiar with Watch Vault, you’re probably aware of our adoration for ochs und junior.
If you're not familiar with ochs und junior, they operate on an ethos of radical simplicity, creating amazing complications with as few moving parts as possible. Backed by the amazing brain that is Ludwig Oechslin, they're simply some of the coolest watches in the world. They're also easy to service, comfortable, and extremely limited in production. Each watch can be fully customised and custom built, and can also be modified post-sale at any point in the future which makes them endlessly versatile and interesting.
As its name suggests, this particular piece houses their astonishing Annual Calendar complication, using only an additional 3 components over the base ETA movement to achieve this; incredible. Being so simple in design, all operations are executed via the crown. No need for pesky pushers.
They make about 40 of these Annual Calendar pieces a year, so you’re unlikely to bump into someone at your local watch meet with the same watch, and given the endless customisation, even if you do, it’ll probably be quite different!
What makes this particular piece so special is that it is one of their LIGHT executions, meaning that any material not deemed necessary has been milled out and has hence created a version of the annual calendar that is now 42.94 grams. Wow.
The dial is formed in grey patina, as are the date discs. The markers are luminous, as are the hands. The seconds hand has had it's tip given the red treatment too, and an additional marker at 11 has also been added, again in red. This was a personal touch by the original owner, and can be removed by ochs und junior should you wish. It’s housed in a 42mm titanium case machined by the same company which produces the Titanium components for the Sauber F1 team, and powered by a modified ETA 2824 meaning easy servicing and reliability.
This particular piece was purchased in late 2019 and presents in excellent condition. There's only very feint hints of use on the case and case back, a few small strap changing marks, and a small dust spec on the glass near the centre. The XL Sturgeon strap it’s currently mounted on has some extra holes cut out for a smaller wrist. See images for full condition details.
Includes the ochs watch pouch and lightweight fabric strap which is all that it comes with from new, as well as a Watch Vault cleaning cloth. Again, simplification.
The world is waking up to ochs und junior. Perhaps we're recognising that in a world increasingly full of flash and superfluousness that perhaps simple, clever and understated is the way forward.
