ochs und junior Moonphase PVD – 2019

For those familiar with Watch Vault, you’re probably aware of our adoration for ochs und junior.

If you're not familiar with ochs und junior, they operate on an ethos of radical simplicity, creating amazing complications with as few moving parts as possible. Backed by the amazing brain that is Ludwig Oechslin, they're simply some of the coolest watches in the world. They're also easy to service, comfortable, and extremely limited in production. Each watch can be fully customised and custom built, and can also be modified post-sale at any point in the future which makes them endlessly versatile and interesting.

As it's name suggests, this particular piece houses their Moonphase complication, which at the time of release was the most accurate moonphase in the world, accurate to 3478 years, and uses a mere 5 extra components on top of it’s base ETA 2824 movement to achieve this; incredible. They make about 50 of these Moonphase pieces a year, so you’re unlikely to bump into someone at your local watch meet with the same watch, and given the endless customisation, even if you do, it’ll probably be quite different!

This particular example has been heavily customised for the original owner, sporting a circular grind dark grey patina dial, removed date complication, patina hour and minute hand, specially enlarged hammered 18k gold sun at 12, and Super-Luminova highlights on the moonphase disc in the form of the stars, and craters on the moon. It’s housed in a Cool Grey PVD coated 42mm titanium case machined by the same company which produces the Titanium components for the Sauber F1 team, and powered by a modified ETA 2824 meaning easy servicing and reliability.

Condition is excellent. There's a few light marks on the case, and some light scratches from strap changes on the rear of the lugs but looks to have been worn fairly carefully. See images for full details.

For those familiar with ochs und junior, you'll know that then aren't accompanied with large boxes or cases in the pursuit of simplification, and ship attached to cardboard or in a travel case.

This piece was purchased from the original owner, and am now selling on behalf of the second owner. It dates to October 2019.
