Omega Seamaster 300 165.024 - 1965
Omega Seamaster 300 165.024
Released in 1962, the 165.024 is one of the most iconic, and beautiful, Seamasters ever created. It was also a highly capable tool watch in its time, with versions being commissioned by the British Royal Navy. One look at it and you can see why. It's case is oversized by the standards of the 1960's, coming in at 42mm, though retaining a sleek silhouette being just 13mm thick. The highly legible no-date dial was heavy on tritium, and the bi-directional bakelite diving bezel a cinch to use. The movement was robust, and it was absolutely as capable as the Rolex 5513 equivalent of the time. This tool-watch capability combined with stunning aesthetics mean it's no wonder they're highly sought after in good condition today.
This particular example would date to circa-1964, and features a stainless steel case that measures in at a contemporary 42mm across the bezel, and around 13mm in thickness including the domed plexi. It's this contemporary sizing that is a large reason why it is so popular even today, and wears like a thoroughly modern watch, but with oodles of vintage charm. The best of both worlds. The case is in fabulous condition, with thick, even lugs, sharp lines, excellent finishes, and clear stampings on the caseback. Crown is the correct non-screwdown flat-foot.
The tritium dial is in stunning condition. The plots have aged to a very even, deep pumpkin colour. Hands are tritium and match the plots perfectly. They're in excellent condition with some cracking present in the hour and minute hand tritium, though no missing sections. Seconds hand shows some rust spots.
The Bakelite bezel shows patina throughout. It rotates crisply, with a clear detent. Plexiglass shows marks throughout, and retains it's Omega logo at centre.
Movement is the automatic cal.522, which has just been serviced by CS Watch Repairs in Sydney. It's currently keeping COSC time when measured dial-up on a timegrapher.
Currently mounted to a lovely aftermarket leather Nato-style strap.
No box or papers. Comes with Watch Vault cleaning cloth and Watch Vault Travel Pod.
