Ressence TYPE 1² ‘Squared’ Black 

Quite simply one of the coolest Indie brands out there in our opinion, Ressence burst onto the scene in 2010 with a genuinely refreshing take on telling-time and have been going from strength to strength ever since.

Utilising an in-house module known as ROCS which sits atop an ETA base, the acronym stands for Ressence Orbital Convex System and is a magnificent piece of engineering which allows the subdials and main disc to constantly revolve around the face. Time-telling becomes quite intuitive once you’re used to it, with the dial showing minutes along the outer track on the main display, hours on the largest subdial, a day of the week indicator and seconds indicator.

This particular version is perhaps our favourite in the current lineup, and known as the ‘squared’. The case shape is very organic, and reminiscent of the Radiomir case from Panerai but with less overhangs, and is one of the most comfortable watches we’ve ever strapped to our wrist. The black dial with white printing would look almost utilitarian if not for it's crazy time-telling display, making it surprisingly versatile for the kind of watch that it is. The blue lume looks amazing at night, with the discs and hands looking as if they are floating in thin air. Very cool.

The 1² also features the most intuitive and easy to use of the winding and time setting systems from Ressence, with a retractable lever set into the case back that is pulled out for efficient winding and time setting, and acts in a 1:1 ratio with the minute indicator on the dial. The use of this system rather than the sapphire twist-type case backs is far easier, and also allows the case to be thinner. Simply, the Squared is the thinnest Ressence, that’s also the easiest to use.

This particular example was first sold in March 2025 and presents in TZ 'Excellent' condition, with some hairlines and scuffs present on the case sides, but that's about it. Please see images for full condition details.

This example also comes fitted to the very rare Ressence twin-trigger deployant, paired with a Ressence 'gator strap. Buckle shows some desk dive marks, and the strap is in fabulous condition.

No service history, but it’s a little young for that. All functions operating as they should, keeps COSC time measured dial-up on a timegrapher, and remains under balance of Ressence warranty.
