Ressence Type 8 Cobalt Blue

Quite simply one of the coolest Indie brands out there in our opinion, Ressence burst onto the scene in 2010 with a genuinely refreshing take on telling-time and have been going from strength to strength ever since.

Utilising an in-house module known as ROCS which sits atop an ETA base, the acronym stands for Ressence Orbital Convex System and is a magnificent piece of engineering which allows the subdials and main disc to constantly revolve around the face. Time-telling becomes quite intuitive once you’re used to it, with the dial showing minutes along the outer track on the main display, hours on the largest subdial, a day of the week indicator and seconds indicator.

This particular version is one of their more recent releases known as the Type 8, and is their most simplified visual offering. Not that it is of any less quality despite it being the entry point into the Ressence brand, and feels just as a well built as any of their other pieces, just with a more simplified display being their time-only watch.

The case shape is very organic, and reminiscent of a polished pebble. Executed in polished grade 5 Titanium, it is a featherweight and owing to it's curved case back and light weight, it's one of the most comfortable watches we’ve ever strapped to our wrist. It's diameter of 42.9mm is not representative of the way it wears, as in fact it feels smaller on the wrist compared with a Type 1 Squared which is almost 2mm smaller, thanks to the complete lack of lugs. It also appears thicker in photos than it is thanks to the refraction from the domed sapphire, and it is in fact just a mere 11mm thick.

The dial on this particular piece is in cobalt blue, with a subtle grain seen under direct sunlight. It's simple, yet mesmerising, as the light is constantly playing with it thanks to that heavily domed crystal. It's just as interesting at night, being well lumed with the hands and dial appearing to be suspended in mid-air.

It's finished with a navy blue calf leather strap on the Ressence signature tang buckle, also in grade 5 titanium.

This particular example was first sold in September 2025 and presents in TZ 'Near Mint' condition, with only light hairlines and swirls present on the case and buckle. Please see images for full condition details.
