Rolex Datejust Oysterquartz 17000 - 1978
Rolex Datejust Oysterquartz 17000
Shock, horror...Rolex produced a Quartz watch! They sure did, and what a Quartz watch it is. Released in 1977, the Oysterquartz was the successor to the limited run 5100 Date which housed a Beta-21 movement. Many other brands also utilised this movement, so Rolex went in-house and developed their own and the Oysterquartz 17000 was born. The movement they came up with was pretty special at the time. Featuring 11 jewels and 32khz oscillators, the 5035 movement was decorated with Geneva stripes (much like a mechanical Rolex) and certified by the COSC as electronic chronometers in the later series. It was all housed in a then-new case which features an integrated bracelet, fully brushed bracelet, measuring at 36mm across the bezel, though it wears larger than the numbers would suggest on paper.
This particular example dates from circa-1978 and presents in excellent vintage condition. Case is extremely sharp, with strong bevels in place. There's a few signs of careful wear around the case, but it is in spectacular condition for it's age. Please inspect the images for full condition details.
Looks to have had an overhaul at some point. Dial has been replaced with a service dial, as have the hands. Both are in excellent condition. Date wheel has closed 6's and 9's.
17000B bracelet contains 13 links bracelet and will fit roughly a 7.5 inch wrist. Clasp code is I10, so dates to 1984. Links are very tight with very minimal stretch.
Specific service history unknown. All functions operating as they should.
