Rolex Daytona 6265 Sigma Dial - 1976
Rolex Daytona 6265 Sigma Dial
The Daytona 6265 needs little introduction. Along with the 6263, the 6265 is the last of the manual wind Daytona's and remains one of the most desirable vintage Rolex's on the market. The 6265 came in various dial configurations, with most people associating them with the 'Big Red' configuration, but for a period between about 1974-1976 the word Daytona was missing from the dial, of which this is one. Combined with being a Sigma dial, it is both relatively rare, and absolutely stunning in person.
This particular example is also that little bit more interesting. Owned by RAAF pilot, it has seen Mach 2 in a Mirage, and then saw its later years put to use in rally driving. The use case for a Daytona as a tool watch doesn't get more concrete than that!
Regardless of its history, it is a stunning example. The case is very thick and ultra-sharp. I don't usually say too much about polishing status, but many a sharp eye within the vintage Rolex game have laid eyes on it and believe it to be lightly touched up at most. Some repairs were performed to the inner ring where the plexi meets the case, perhaps caused by a poor removal of the plexi at some point, and was done in the interest of water resistance.
Correct '200' bezel in place, and is in amazing condition. All infill in place. Correct pushers.
Dial is lovely. Unmarked other than a small scratch underneath the hands, perhaps from a slip while removing them at some point. Remnants of tritium plots are in place, in various states of thickness. Hour and minute hand are service replacements, but correct versions can be acquired.
Bracelet is a 78350 with 10 links, and 571 endlinks. Clasp code is DT7. Minimal stretch for its age.
