Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36mm A-Serial 'Tritinova' 16234 - 1999
Rolex Datejust Steel/Gold 36mm 16234
The Datejust 36 is an absolute stalwart of the horological world, and watches don't come much more iconic. This particular version is the 16234, and is a real sweet-spot in the range for us. It holds all of the vintage charm you'd expect of a vintage or neo-vintage Rolex, while also retaining modern usability, serviceability, and reliability. It really is probably all the watch you'd ever need to own.
Featuring a perfectly proportioned 36mm case in steel, topped with the iconic fluted white gold bezel. Within this case lies a stark white dial, almost looking like enamel, with applied markers, and a black railroad track minutes on its outer circumference. What makes this particular version that little bit more special is the fact it's what Rolex collectors refer to as a 'Tritinova' dial. In the late 90's Rolex began transitioning from Tritium to Super-Luminova for their hands and dials. They clearly still had tritium-denoted dial blanks on hand, so instead of wasting them they used Super-Luminova on a Tritium-designated dial. A cool piece of Rolex history, and something Rolex collectors love.
Powering it is the venerable and extremely robust 3135 movement, and it's finished off with the iconic Jubilee bracelet. It makes for a versatile and elegant piece, and one it that is now starting to become extremely popular with collectors and those wanting to take their first steps into the world of neo-vintage Rolex.
This particular example presents in excellent neo-vintage condition. It's had just the two owners from new, with the current owner having had it for over 20 years. It still retains its case back sticker, and has never been serviced or interfered with, with the only people to have opened it being Rolex in Beverley Hills, and Rolex expert Woods Watchmaking here in Australia. Remarkably it is still keeping excellent time, and is a true time capsule.
It was worn sparingly by the current owner, and shows some light scratches and scuffs on the case sides, but that's about it. Has never been polished, and the bezel is as sharp as you could possibly ever hope for. When you see one in this condition, you see what they're truly meant to look like.
Dial is perfect, as are the hands. See images for full condition details.
Bracelet is a 62510H with 555B endlinks, and has 18 links with one spare. Will fit up to around a 7.7in wrist. Next to no stretch. Shows some desk dive marks, mainly on the buckle.
Comes with outer box, inner box, booklets, guarantee papers (expired), papers holder, certificate of authenticity from Rolex, and correctly stickered swing tag (not pictured).
This is a true collector grade 16234. They simply don't get much better than this.
