S.U.F Helsinki X Moomin Diver

As you’re probably aware, we’re enormous fans of Sarpaneva here at Watch Vault. As spectacular as they are, their price point can sometimes be prohibitive. But alas, Stepan and his team have a solution to this issue, and that solution is S.U.F Helsinki.

What Tudor is to Rolex, S.U.F is a sub-brand of Sarpaneva and allows some of Stepan’s watchmaking magic to accessed by more people. But it’s not only a price-pointed product. They are quite different to Sarpaneva in their mostly tool-watch vibe, and therefore have an appeal all of their own.

This particular piece is based on the Vetehinen, which was S.U.F's first dive watch. It was named in tribute to the Finnish Submarine of 1942 who was famously willing to conserve his torpedoes and instead order a steep, fast dive to ram his underwater adversary. A pure demonstration of Finnish 'Sisu'.

But what happens when you take an altogether serious Diver from S.U.F, and combine them with something as whimsical as the Moomin? Sarpaneva first celebrated Moomins, the central characters in a series of books and a comic strip by Swedish-Finn illustrator and writer Tove Jansson, with the S.U.F Moomin edition released in 2020. This was based around the S.U.F 180 case, a 38mm field watch, and this is the follow up to that release, now in Dive watch form.

It features the most amazing hand-finished 3-part partially skeletonized dial, which is then painstakingly hand painted in the Sarpaneva workshop in Tritec lume in 7 colours. Not only is it spectacular in no-light conditions, but even in low-light it gives off a subtle glow, and the way this light plays off the dial is very cool indeed.

It features a beautifully proportioned 42mm case made of Finnish steel, measuring in at just 11.45mm thick. This is topped by a uni-directional bezel, which surrounds a 2.05mm thick sapphire crystal, which along with it's screw-down case back and crown endows it with 300m of water resistance. 

It’s powered by a modified Soprod A10 automatic, and to finish it off is mounted to a beautiful handmade black salmon leather strap with steel tang buckle, and also includes a Grassbay strap by Erika`s Originals MN.

This particular example was first sold in June 2024 and presents in TZ 'Near Mint' condition. There’s some light strap change marks on the rear of the lugs, and a scuff on the left side of the case, but that's about it. Please see images for full condition details.

Currently mounted to the handmade Salmon strap. The strap has not even been broken in, and remains stiff and straight. Buckle shows no marks. Also includes the MN strap, and a Delugs rubber strap.

Keeping COSC time, and remains under manufacturers warranty.
