Sarpaneva Korona K3 Moonphase

Rare bird alert! Here's something you don't see everyday, the absolutely amazing Sarpaneva K3 Moonphase.

Based on the smaller 42mm K3 case in Finnish steel, it tends to wear a little smaller than the specs suggest due to the very short lugs and scalloped case. Within this case is Sarpaneva's famous multi-layered lattice dial, which is painstakingly hand finished and provides a depth that is rarely seen on any watch dial, especially one in a case this thin. Despite its monchromatic colour scheme, the effect this dial gives off under different lighting condition dues to the finishes utilised is mesmerising and endlessly intriguing.

The star of the show is Sarpanevas signature moonphase, which comes into full view at the 6 o'clock aperture. What we love about this particular execution is that the two moons are visible all the way around the dial under the latticework, meaning you don't need to wait for the moonphase to hit the aperture to view it.

It's topped with Sarpenavas superbly executed steel hands in alternating frosted and polished finishes, and a blued seconds hand to add a touch of colour. It’s powered by the venerable Soprod A10 movement as is usual for Sarpaneva’s, and sits within an open caseback showing off the third melancholy moon placed within the rotor.

This particular piece dates to 2017 and presents in TZ Good condition. The case shows some light scratches and minor scuffs, as well as a few tiny pint dents/nicks around the case and bezel which is the reason for the 'Good' rather than 'Excellent' grading according to the TZ scale. It's presented on a lovely handmade Italian Colareb strap, and also includes a factory Sarpaneva Alligator strap in burgundy in a short size, as well as Sarpaneva's excellent rubber strap.

Was serviced in 2021 by Woods Watchmaking and is currently keeping COSC time at around 300 degrees of amplitude at time of testing.
